Taking Facebook by storm

8th September 2009

Durham Cathedral can now claim to be the most popular cathedral in the world, thanks to a Facebook Page created by Hiltonian Media.

Having developed the page in conjunction with the Chapter Clerk, it was launched in June 2009 and quickly attracted hundreds of “fans”. Within just a few days it had more fans than any other Cathedral on Facebook.

Philip Davies, Chapter Clerk at Durham Cathedral and administrator of the Facebook page, said:

I'm really pleased with the success of the Facebook page after so short a time. It shows a very high level of interest in the Cathedral and it's particularly pleasing that the vast majority of the fans who have registered on the page are under the age of 30.

Durham Cathedral might be an ancient institution but it is using modern technology to tell people that it is here and it is here for them.

You can become a fan of Durham Cathedral by visiting its Facebook Page. If you are interested in using Facebook to promote your organisation, we would love to hear from you.

Shorter, safer URLs to share

1st June 2009

Hiltonian Media has launched a new URL shortening service, which scans links against malware and phishing databases before forwarding users to the site. It can also provide users with a preview of the site so that they can be sure they aren't being duped into visiting somewhere they don't want to go, or load the site with a social-media toolbar.

You can start creating shorter links now by visiting http://linkmeto.it, http://linkmeto.eu or http://frommeto.eu now, or right-click the following link and select “Add to Bookmarks” or “Add to Bookmarks” (depending on the software you use) or drag and drop it on your Links toolbar: Shorten Link.

You can shorten any sort of link, such as images, web pages and email addresses, and even link to uploaded text content. Soon the service will be upgraded to provide private statistics so you can tell how popular your links are.
