New Browser Releases - is your website affected?

22nd March 2011

Over the past few days, both Microsoft and Mozilla have released major updates to their web browser software – Internet Explorer 9 and Firefox 4, respectively. These updates bring significant performance and security improvements, as well as streamlined user interfaces and new features.

Controversially, IE9 is only available to users of Windows Vista or Windows 7, leaving a significant number of Windows XP users unable to upgrade. This, we are told, is to make the most of hardware acceleration and other OS features. But Firefox 4 can be installed on a much wider range of platforms, including Mac OS X and Linux.

What does this mean for your website?

Whenever a new browser version is launched, there is always the risk of elements of your website displaying or behaving incorrectly – no matter how much forward planning is done! Sometimes these glitches are relatively trivial and require little or no action, but on occasion they can cause a significant problem for the users of your website.

What can I do?

If you would like to err on the side of caution, Hiltonian Media can test and review your website in the latest browsers and, where necessary, make any necessary amendments to ensure your customers see your website the way it should be.
